So on Friday (Oct 10) we had our regular gathering about marriage at Roya's lovely home. I don't always go but I did tonight and got to introduce one of my current favorite books on marriage, Pure Gold.
In the introduction they have a picture of how a marriage is built - on equality, frienship, compatibility, communication, and how working together with love and more it's able to produce more love in the community and even children who can love. I'll try to get a copy of the pic here.
We had a good discussion about what's important in marriages - from a Chinese viewpoint. Reliability which translates often to money to buy a house, a car, and raise a child. But what was missing it was said is true communication. It seems there is a sense of equality and compatibility since most marriages in China are between Chinese people. But there is a lack of communication regarding conflict and finding ways to solve all kinds of big and little differences of viewpoints and wishes.
We were excited about the book Pure Gold as it talks about how to use our virtues (what's the purpose of our lives? To know and love God, to develop our virtues is what I remember) more, better, etc. in a marriage (and of course other) relationship. These are some nice related links:

Everyone wanted a copy of the book.
Roya, William and some others and I talked about providing formal workshops using the book. Here is our plan:
- Develop Curriculum for 1st 8 hour training
- Develop material for our website at http://www.bgb.org/ "Building Green Bridges" - Training for a More Sustainable Life
- Develop marketing plan for first workshop
- Translate all marketing material (website, brochure, business cards)
Questions:
Have you read this book? What are your thoughts? How could you see sharing it with others? What's your experience in studying a book about marriage with others - how does it help? what are some things that we should be aware of?
Thanks!! You can order the book here:
